Actionable Steps:

Here are Christopher’s suggestions on what you can do today to build your own resilience and instill resilience in your family.

  1. Set goals. It’s O.K. if they change over time. You don’t even need to have achieved the goal in order to have benefitted from it. It served you for that time and gave you something to work for.
  2. Remember, words have meaning. Reframe your vocabulary to instill resiliency. Change “I have to” into “I get to.” Your words have the power of self-persuasion and can set the tone for your life.
  3. Take a cold shower. This is the easiest hard thing to do. To get out of your autopilot and live resiliently, take a cold shower. The cold shower will force you to breathe deeply and gets your adrenaline pumping. It kicks you out of autopilot and gives you a boost. When you get out, you will feel amazing.
